Ionisation at the ESD workplace
Application: assemblies with ESD sensitive components, semiconductor components, electrical components
Initial situation
Electrostatic charges on equipped printed circuit boards can result in destruction of sensitive electronic components. Damage can occur due to voltage flashovers which can lead to immediate or later failure. Furthermore, charged surfaces attract environmental dust and particles which must be later cleaned off with considerable effort according to cleanliness requirements. In spite of an ESD suitable setup of the workplace, charges can occur during assembly.
Solution
A PRECISION ionization electrode is installed above an ESD workstation, which provides positive and negative ions in a blow bar. This electrode is able to immediately reduce electrostatic charges on component surfaces that pass by the ionized airstream. In addition, this discharging helps prevent dust accumulation on the surfaces. The PRECISION ionization system enables intelligent electrostatic discharge for ESD applications, according to IEC 61340-5-1:2016 standard, residual charge (ionic balance) < 35 V.
