Cleaning of plugs in an assembly line

Application: All types of connectors or HV plug and socket devices, connection technology

Initial situation

Chips and metallic abrasion particles are produced during the various work steps of connector manufacture, e.g. when punching or stamping contact materials.

These particles can accumulate on the workpiece carrier and may then be carried all the way to the final product.

There is a risk that contaminated connectors may cause faults and failures when used later in assemblies, plus, the fully assembled connectors are often subject to high cleanliness requirements.

Solution

The connectors are positioned in a specific way on a workpiece carrier and transported through a TAIFUN-CLEAN® cleaning station that is adapted to the product to be cleaned.

Cleaning can be carried out in a stop position or at a suitable speed in the pass-through process, depending on the circumstances.

Ionisation electrodes eliminate electrostatic charges and adhesive forces; rotating nozzles on the top and bottom generate turbulent compressed air which loosens particles to be removed from the surfaces, even in hard-to-reach areas, and then feed them to an ESUC supply unit via suction ports.

Monitoring: On request, TAIFUN-CLEAN® rotating nozzles can be equipped with rev speed monitoring and observed via TAIFUN-CLEAN-CONTROL evaluation electronics.

ESD applications: Ionisation equipment for electrostatic discharge conforms to the current IEC 61340-5-1:  2016 standard, residual charge (ionic balance) < 35 V is possible.
