Electrostatic discharge at the injection moulding machine

Application: plastic injection moulding, injection moulding machine, light injection moulded parts or micro-injection moulded parts

KIST + ESCHERICH Electrostatic discharge at the injection moulding machine

Initial situation

Removing plastic injection parts from the mould generates high electrostatic charges on the surfaces. Electrostatic charges show up as various problems during the injection moulding process, e.g., the moulded product may stick to the tool, the gripper, the conveyor or the collector bin. Furthermore, high charges attract dust or material particles from the environment. In further processing, e.g., surface treatment, quality problems due to embedded particles and an increased scrap rate may arise.

Solution

The use of SMART ION ionizing bars with a wide effective range reduces the surface charges immediately after removing the plastic injection moulded parts from the press without the support of compressed air. This prevents unwanted dust attraction and streamlines further processing.
If required, the neutralization of electrostatically charged injection molded parts can optionally be accelerated with additional compressed air support.
