Discharge of ESD-sensitive Components

Application: PCBs equipped with sensors and integrated circuits, industrial electronics, computer technology, telecommunications technology and automotive electronics

KIST + ESCHERICH Discharge of ESD-sensitive Components

Initial situation

Insulated surfaces on printed circuit boards and equipped construction elements can become electrostatically charged due to various production operations. Due to these charges, sensitive electrical and electronic constructive components can be functionally impaired or destroyed. Furthermore, electrostatic charges generate attractive forces which affect dust and material particles in the immediate ambience of the component surfaces and can result in undesirable deposits and contamination.

Solution

PRECISION ionizers are inserted in the production line to remove electrostatic charges. These ionization electrodes generate positive and negative ions which are transported by a blowing unit and reduce charges on ESD sensitive construction elements by movement of the ionized airstream. The PRECISION ionization system enables intelligent electrostatic discharge for ESD applications, according to IEC 61340-5-1:2016 standard, residual charge (ionic balance) < 35 V.
