Cleaning of cover films before sealing in thermoforming machines

Application: film cleaning before thermoforming, packaging machines for medical products

KIST + ESCHERICH Cleaning of cover films before sealing in thermoforming machines

Initial situation

Blister packs are manufactured, filled and subsequently sealed with a cover film by means of thermoplastic forming of precut film material.
Electrostatic charges, which causes cutting particles to adhere to the material surfaces, can develop when unwinding the film and during material transport; this leads to unwanted contamination and particle carry over.
The pharmaceutical and food industries have the most stringent cleanliness requirements for their blisters and products packaged in them.
Contaminants that adhere, as a result of electrostatic charges, must be removed before thermoforming.

Solution

Following unwinding, the film material is cleaned with STATIK-AIR®, the non-contact air ionisation system. Integrated ionization electrodes reduce the electrostatic charges and any attractive forces between particles and the material. Flat jet nozzles whirl up adhering particles, which are then taken up into a concentrated suction airstream and transported into an ESUC/ESCA suction unit.

Depending on the material handling and cleanliness requirements specified, a two-sided film cleaning or a cleaning of only the cover film is required. We also offer the options of ionisation electrodes and suction units in cleanroom-suitable variants.
