PRECISION POINT 25 – Precision Ionization for Demanding ESD Applications

With the PRECISION POINT 25, KIST + ESCHERICH expands its PRECISION product family with an ionization system designed for demanding ESD applications. The new ionization unit was developed for processes where electrostatic charges must be neutralized precisely, rapidly, and reliably directly at the component.

In electronics, semiconductor, and automotive manufacturing, electrostatic charges are generated by friction, contact, separation, and handling processes. Even low residual charges can damage ESD-sensitive components, cause process disruptions, or impair the reliability of electronic systems. The PRECISION POINT 25 addresses exactly this challenge: it generates positive and negative ions and delivers them precisely into the effective zone via a directed airflow.

"With the PRECISION POINT 25, we bring high-performance ionization to the point," says Dr. Reiner Wahl, Head of Development at KIST + ESCHERICH GmbH. "The system is compact, powerful, and can be integrated even where space is limited – without compromising ESD safety or process stability."
The high-frequency technology ensures optimally adapted discharge performance and a stable ion balance. The system is ESD-compliant and achieves a residual charge of < 35 V in accordance with IEC 61340-5-1. Thanks to the integrated high-voltage power supply, 24 V DC power input, dedicated control unit, and compact design, the PRECISION POINT 25 integrates easily into existing machinery.

Key technical highlights include replaceable air-purged tungsten emitters, integrated pressure monitoring, touch-safe design, LED status indicator, status signal for external function monitoring, clean-me function, and flexible application options via interchangeable nozzle attachments. The working distance ranges from 20 to 200 mm, with low compressed air consumption and precise ion transport.

Typical applications include PCB assembly, PCB inspection and test systems, PCB transport, PCB depaneling, pick-and-place processes, wafer handling, and the assembly of sensitive optical or electronic components. In these applications, pinpoint ionization neutralizes charges directly at critical transfer, test, or processing points – reducing the risk of latent or immediate ESD damage.

Particularly in dynamic processes such as depaneling, film peeling, handling, or component transfer, active ionization offers a clear advantage over passive measures. Electrostatic charges are neutralized regardless of material properties, while the accumulation of dust and particles is simultaneously reduced.
With the PRECISION POINT 25, KIST + ESCHERICH strengthens its position as a technology partner for precise electrostatic discharge, ESD protection, and stable manufacturing processes in high-tech industries. The system complements the existing PRECISION portfolio and provides machine builders with a powerful solution for pinpoint ionization in the tightest of spaces.
